BIOTECH ELECTROPHORESIS Systems

PAPER ELECTROPHORESIS SYSTEMS

BioTech makes four different systems for Paper Electrophoresis. They are usefull in diagonosis of certain diseases like Multiple myeloma in clinical laboratories. These systems employ inexpensive Whatman filter paper, agar/agarose gel or cellulose acetate membranes.

VERTICAL MODELS

Electrophoresis of 3 one inch/6 one inch width paper strips in a hanging inverted 'V' pattern or agar/agarose gel electrophoresis in micro-slides can be done. It is economical for routine laboratory investigations.

HORIZONTAL MODELS

Designed for the electrophoresis of 6 one inch width paper strips horizontally or 6 micro-slide gels. Experimental time can be reduced, because the strips length is reduced.

HORIZONTAL ELECTROPHORESIS SYSTEMS

BioTech offers 3 models of Horizontal Electrophoresis Systems. They are exclusively used for horizontal agar/agarose or starch gel electrophoresis. Serum proteins and other enzymes are separated. Immunological reagents are employed to achieve greater sensitivity, known as 'immunoelectrophoresis'.

STUDENT MODEL

It is designed  to carry out  gel  electrophoresis  in two micro-slides. Buffer required is about 100 ml hence highly economical. Minipack is sufficient for running.

IMMUNO MODEL

A devoted system  for all  kinds  of immuno  electrophoresis  in five  micro -slides. The  system  can  be  placed  in a  refrigerator  to maintain  at  low temperature in enzymic studies. A set of gel template and puncher are available with the system. Using the gel template, not only the gel can be cast in unifrom thickness but also sample wells can be made easy.

STARCH GEL SYSTEM

It is used for isozyme studies. Gel (20x19cm) casting, running can be carried out with ease & efficiency. Gel slicer helps to slice the gel of desired thickness.

SUBMARINE (HORIZONTAL) GEL SYSTEMS

Electrophoresis of nucleic acid fragments (DNA/RNA) are esentially carried  out  in  agarose   gels,  Submerged  under  buffer, known as 'Submarine  Gel  Electrophoresis'.  BioTech makes  5  different  gel systems to cater all purposes. Every unit comes out of our laboratory spells out the following features.

* High buffer-gel ratio, to prevent gel melting & minimise pH difference during electrophoresis.

* Handy gel platforms, make gel easier; availability of UV-Transparent gel platforms help to view the brands without taking out.

* smooth well formation, using a variety of 'non-sticky' Teflon combs.

MINI MODEL

It is a  compact  unit for  rapid analysis of  plasmid  DNA & restriction enzyme digests. Two different gel platforms are availabel. Well forming combs are made of Teflon.

ANALYTICAL MODEL

It is a versatile system. Three  different  sizes of gel platforms available. Restriction digests, fragment analysis and screening of plasmids can be done  easily. Teflon combs as  well as 30 sample  can be  loaded at a time.

PREPARATIVE MODEL

This is excllusively for preparative works-large scale isolation & purification of specific DNA fragment. This system is also used for the seperation of DNA fragments which requires longer run. The maximum gel size is 25x13 cm. Special acrylic combs in 6.0 mm or 3.0 mm thickness are available.

COMPACT MODEL

This is a student model with a two stage (50V or 100V) mini pack. This is an ideal system for teaching & demonstration of DNA electrophoresis. The floor of the system is made of UV transparent sheet. Gel can be cast on the floor itself and hence bands can be viewed without taking the gel out of the system. No separate gel platform is required.

MAXI MODEL

BioTech has designed a new extra large gel system to run several samples at high voltage. Built-in heat-exchanger and buffer circulation ports control 'joule' heat & ion depletion. So the system can be efficiently employed for conventional as well as field inversion nucleic acid separation techniques. Teflon combs upto 40 teeth are available for loading large number of samples.

ROD (TUBE/DISC) GEL SYSTEMS

Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in glass tubes has got its own advantages. It is carried  out even  with a  single  samlpe  very  economically. Acrylamide gel polymerized  in  glass  tubes  are  used,  hence  it  is  known  as  'Tube  Gel' electrophoresis. Sample is loaded on top of the gel and after the run the bands appear like, discs.

This technique (also known as DISC gel electrophoresis) is preferred for when there are only few samples. Both Rectangular and Circular models are available.

VERTICAL SLAB GEL SYSTEMS

One of the most widely used techniques in Modern Biology is the 'Poly acrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). Proteins, Enzymes and other polypeptisides are studied. Electrophoresis in vertical gel slabs has resulted in several advantages.

  * Comparision of several samples can be done precisely in gel slabs than in rod gels.

  * Use of thinner gels facilitates, faster staining & destaining of bands.

  * Bands in the slab gels can be transferred onto membranes easily.

  * Gel slabs can be dried for autoradiography & for preservation.

SEQUENCING SYSTEM

Nowadays, separation of  nucleotide fragments has  become an essential step in DNA Sequencing. Electrophoretic   separation  is  carried  out in   ultra-thin   polyacrylamide  gels. As the  separation involves-handling  of  larger  gels; employing  high  voltages  and  maintenance  of  specific thermal conditions, extreme care has been taken in designing our systems.

Two sequencing  systems  are available. Narrow Unit - 14x14 cm gel  and Wider unit - 35x41 cm gel. They  are made  sturdy to hold heavy  glass  plates. Aluminium  back  plate is  used to  control temperature of the  glass plates. Good  quality  gaskets, buffer drain  ports ensure leak-free & safe operation of the systems.Gel is prepared outside using Teflon Combs (rectangular/shark tooth) & spacers are provided and as many as samples can be electrophoresed.

MULTI-PURPOSE ELECTROPHORESIS SYSTEMS

A modular system for all kinds of Vertical & Horizontal electrophoresis techniques. This system was designed in 1982 with the view of the growing importance of Electrophoresis Techniques at college level. It is an all-in-one model trained to perform every one of the following techniques with ease and excellence.

  *  Horizontal agar/agarose gel electrophoresis in micro slide gels.  *  Immuno electrophoresis.   * Electro  focussing in horizontal poly acryllamide gel.  * Starch gel electrophoresis in 13x13 cm gel.  * Submarine gel electrophoresis in 13x13 cm gel. * Paper electrophoresis, 4 or 5 strips of 3x25 cm. * Rod gel electrophoresis. * Slab del electrophoresis in 16x14 cm gel.

ELECTRO-TRANSFER SYSTEMS

Electrophoresis systems described as so far separate protiens or  nucleic  acids. Further  studies  involve  identification & characterization  of  bands,  for which, bands  in the gels are extracted  out  and concentrated. A kind  of electrophoresis helps in this process known as Electroelution. It is considered to be  more  efficient  than  the other  methods  like dyalysis.

Very  often,  bands  from the  gel  are  transfered  on  to  membranes, by electrophoresis known as "Electroblotting". They are then subjected to various analysis -very conveniently and efficiently.

BIOTECH makes compact systems - Electro Elutor and Bioblots for carrying out these techniques.

WET BLOTTERS

Transfer is carried out in Gel cassettes, totally submerged inthe buffer. Each cassette contains a gel & a membrane sandwiched inbetween scotch/cushion pads. As the membrane is facing towards anode, protiens/nucleic acids move towards membrane during run and get immobilized. Heat during run can be controlled by efficient heat-exchanger.

TRANSILLUMINATORS

UV TRANSILLUMINATORS - College Model

This unique  system is   our own  product,  based  on  "Dark-field" visualization. It is used to  view  Ethidium  Bromide  stained nucleic acid bands. It has a viewing area of 25x15 cm. Suitable for most of the gels.  UV-Transparent  acrylic  sheet is  placed  in  the  viewing window, and  its  background is darkened. UV lamps are mounted just  below  the  lid  and  kept  in  an angle so that maximum light is focussed towards the window.

The unit does not employ the expensive Quartz filter & at the same time, visualization of bands are enhansed  by the dark background. Hence, it is an economical system affordable by every laboratory.

TRANSILLUMINATORS - Research Models

BIOTECH introduces 2 models of new high sensitive Transilluminators. Long-life Quartz filter is used. It is resistant to solarization by the UV light used. UV lamps are mounted just below the Quartz filter to provide an intense & uniform source of light. Cooling fan automatically runs when the UV is on, prevents the unit thermal damages during prolonged usage.

TRANSILLUMINATORS - White light

It illuminates with cool day light. Gels stained with visual dyes  or  autoradiography films are very clearly seen and photographed. It can be also used in graphic applications. It has 20x19 cm, window as viewing area, covered with opaque acrylic sheet to provide uniform intensity of light.
